FROM THE WIRES...

As autumn deepens and the holiday season approaches, Quinta da Fonte Souto offers wines that beautifully bridge the two seasons, bringing freshness and warmth, elegance and depth. This exquisite Symington Family Estate property is THE renowned Port producer's first vineyard outside of Portugal’s famed Douro region.

Nestled high in southern Portugal's Serra de São Mamede mountain range in Portalegre, an Alentejo sub-region, Quinta da Fonte Souto is celebrated for wines of superior concentration and minerality. The 511-acre property includes 106 acres of mature vineyards. The estate’s name comes from 'fonte' meaning source of water or fountain in Portuguese, and 'Souto' refers to a chestnut grove, together representing the abundant natural springs and beautiful chestnut groves found on the property.

This distinctive location captures the spirit of the season’s shift, from crisp mountain air giving way to fireside evenings, and orchard fruit ripening into spice and richness. Each wine reflects that harmony, making them ideal companions from harvest gatherings to festive holiday celebrations.

Quinta da Fonte Souto White 2023 (SRP $32)

This wine embodies all the strengths of the property's unique terroir: the freshness and balance afforded by the altitude; the concentration, which derives from mature, low-yielding vines, and the complexity and structure provided by the barrel fermentation sur-lie with bâtonnage. This white allows for maximum expression of the Arinto, widely regarded as Portugal's finest white grape variety and has a smaller Verdelho component.

The White 2023 is vibrant yet textured — with aromas of citrus zest, white peach, and a touch of wild herbs. Its mineral backbone and lively acidity make it a natural match for roasted poultry, creamy pastas, or a holiday seafood spread. It’s that rare white that feels equally at home on a sunlit afternoon or by candlelight.

Quinta da Fonte Souto Red 2020 (SRP $32)

The Red 2020, crafted from Alicante Bouschet, Alfrocheiro, and Syrah, delivers generous flavors of black cherry, plum, and subtle spice. Silky tannins and a hint of earthiness ground it beautifully — the kind of red that complements both hearty autumn stews and elegant holiday roasts. It’s graceful without being heavy, a true crowd-pleaser for the season ahead.

From fall feasts to holiday tables, Quinta da Fonte Souto brings balance, versatility, and a sense of place to every occasion.
