LUXURY STAY. THE WESTIN DALLAS STONEBRIAR GOLF RESORT AND SPA

by Andrew Chalk

Right on the edge of Dallas, waiting to offer world-class golf on its Tom Fazio-designed course, luxury food, wine, and spirits with sumptuous rooms and amenities is the Westin Dallas Stonebriar Golf Resort and Spa. It is so easy to get away for a romantic weekend, or family get-together. So attuned to hosting a wedding or corporate retreat. Such a rewarding golf destination, and pampering spa retreat.

With 302 Texas-sized guestrooms, in 400 acres, with 3 dining facilities, and a pool the length of the main building, the Westin Stonebriar Resort is large. Our visit was on a busy weekend where weddings appeared to be the big happening.

Rooms are large as well. So large they absorb the king-size bed. This bed, incidentally, is The Westin Bed, sold online for visitors who enjoy their ‘trial run’ with it. Try to get a room overlooking the pool, that is the best view and, with the golf course being beyond the pool, you would never guess you were in Frisco.

The Well & Being Spa specializes in halotherapy along with all the conventional treatments (couples massages, facials, massages, men’s services, steam room and waxing. It was a great start to a day’s exploring.

An unusual amenity is a TopGolf Swing Suite. It started as swinging a golf club in front of a giant screen and electronics that detected your ‘hits’. Now it incorporates several games and levels for groups to enjoy. Remember to book in advance to get a ‘tee’ time.

Beans & Barrel is a cafe and coffee bar just off the lobby. It is open all day and is conveniently close to the bar for those that want something a little stronger. Herd & Hearth (they like their ampersands) is the full service restaurant serving breakfast and full dinner service. This is where you can get a ribeye or Texas Bison Burger. Our favorite was the melt-in-the mouth Braised Short Ribs and the Peach Wood Smoked Corn Bisque.

If there is a resort with a larger pool in the area I have not found it yet. And for those who just want to dip and sunbathe there are cabanas and sun loungers.

Golfers certainly enjoyed themselves, judging from their happy faces, but we non-golfers had a great time too, leaving us refreshed for the week ahead.

Disclosure: I was a media guest of the Westin Dallas Stonebriar Resort and Spa.
