The town square in the picturesque North Texas town of Gainesville was turned into a wine festival this last Saturday. North Texas Wine Country, the organisation of wineries in the north of our state took over with 16 member wineries setting up booths on three sides of the square from noon to six to serve tastings of some of their best wines.

By the time I arrived at 3pm it was truly hopping with lines at every booth, food vendors serving barbeque and other foods, and lots of seats to sit down and talk over a glass. After tackling Dallas traffic earlier in the day I was enamoured with how friendly everyone was and how relaxing it was in the near-perfect fall sun.
One reason it was so seamless: this is North Texas Wine Country’s second year doing this, so they have the admin. down cold. Another one, the City of Gainesville worked with them to pedestrianize the whole area for the day, and provide security through the Gainesville P.D.
For my part, I was so impressed with the quality of the wine coming out of the wineries here, and the fact that virtually all of them are 100% Texas grapes. As the US wine industry hits a downturn nationally, Texas farmers deserve all the purchases they can get to continue to produce high quality fruit.

Remember, all of these wineries are open to visitors. There is no better way to spend a one day wine trip than in North Texas.

Cut and paste the list of wineries below into chatGPT and ask it to “read the physical address of each one and then display a map of the area with each winery shown”. Pretty neat huh?
