SPRING MOUNTAIN VINEYARD CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JUDGMENT OF PARIS,
UNVEILING NEW EXPERIENCES AND A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR THE APPELLATION
St. Helena, Calif. – November 12, 2025 – As the wine world prepares to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the pivotal 1976 Judgment of Paris, Spring Mountain Vineyard, one of the seven legendary Napa Valley wineries that participated in the historic blind tasting, is thrilled to announce a year-long celebration. This milestone event famously placed Napa Valley on the global oenophile map and Spring Mountain Vineyard’s 1973 Chardonnay secured fourth place, surpassing several renowned French houses.
In honor of this golden anniversary, Spring Mountain Vineyard invites wine lovers to immerse themselves in a curated itinerary of exclusive tastings and experiences. Visitors can experience the “Judgment of Paris" tasting, which delves into the estate’s origin story, including a tour of the storied estate, with its stunning and recently restored botanical gardens and a glimpse into understanding how Spring Mountain Vineyard is positioning itself for generations to come. For those seeking deeper exploration and adventure, the “Spring Mountain Explorers” estate experience offers an off-road ATV tour of the 845 acre property ranging between 400–1700 feet in elevation, showcasing the rugged mountain terroir that has defined the winery for over a century. This one-of-a-kind experience features perched vistas, ancient terraced vineyard blocks, “ghost wineries” and hidden orchards. The excursion concludes with a tasting that features wines from the estate's impressive library of back vintages as well as new release wines that showcase Spring Mountain’s distinctive terroir.
Beyond celebrating its storied past, Spring Mountain Vineyard is also looking to the future with a massive 225 acre vineyard replanting and restoration project. This ambitious initiative, stemming from wildfire damage, aims to revitalize the estate and establish a benchmark mountain vineyard for future generations. Since 1892, Spring Mountain Vineyard has managed this unique land, encompassing four historic ranches and two-thirds of the Spring Mountain District AVA. Following the 2020 Glass Fire, new ownership is reimagining the property, blending modern practices with 150 years of knowledge. This multi-year project, in collaboration with Bettinelli Vineyard and Atelier Melka, involves extensive study of soil, aspects, and microclimates across 150 vineyard blocks. The goal is to produce exceptional fruit while enhancing resiliency and sustainability. Environmental initiatives, including water conservation, sustainability, biodiversity, and regenerative agricultural practices, are central to the project. The replanting focuses on Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, with the first estate grapes expected in 2029.
