TERRAZAS DE LOS ANDES UNVEILS EXTREMO MALBEC 2022 IN THE US

The most elevated expression of the winery's Ascension Journey is crafted from a single parcel in Gualtallary at 1,650 meters above sea level

MENDOZA, Argentina, June 23, 2026. Terrazas de los Andes, a pioneer of high-altitude winegrowing in Mendoza, Argentina since the early 1990s, proudly announces the US release of Extremo Malbec 2022, the pinnacle of its Ascension Journey: a decades-long pursuit of higher-altitude vineyards in search of greater freshness, precision and purity in Malbec.

Crafted from a single parcel in El Espinillo, the highest vineyard in Gualtallary, Uco Valley, planted at 1,650 meters above sea level, Terrazas de los Andes Extremo Malbec 2022 captures the elegance and energy of the Andes. Characterized by some of the lowest average temperatures in the region and mineral-rich calcareous soils, the site produces a Malbec of remarkable aromatic expression, structure and varietal precision, offering an unparalleled expression of one of Mendoza's most extraordinary terroirs.

"Extremo Malbec represents the pinnacle of our Ascension Journey and our vision for mountain winemaking," said Lucas Löwi, Estate Director and CEO of Terrazas de los Andes. "For more than three decades, we have explored Mendoza's highest vineyards to better understand how altitude shapes Malbec. This exceptional parcel allows us to capture the Andes with remarkable precision, translating its climate, soil profile, biodiversity and unique sense of place into a wine of depth, freshness and elegance."

Farmed regeneratively and surrounded by native Andean biodiversity, this new vintage reflects Terrazas de los Andes' commitment to preserving mountain ecosystems while amplifying the expression of its highest vineyards. The result is a wine shaped by altitude, climate, soil and biodiversity - allowing the character of the site to speak with clarity and finesse.

Bright and vibrant on the palate, Extremo Malbec 2022 reveals layers of red and black fruit, delicate floral notes and a refined mineral character. Fine-textured tannins and balanced acidity carry through to a long, elegant finish, reflecting the energy and tension that define this extreme mountain terroir.

Under Löwi's leadership, Terrazas de los Andes continues to shape the future of high-altitude winemaking in Mendoza, pairing decades of vineyard expertise with ongoing innovation, expertise and precision to uncover new dimensions of complexity and balance in mountain-grown wines.

Critically acclaimed, including a perfect 100-point score, Extremo Malbec has earned recognition as one of Argentina's most celebrated luxury wines. The 2022 vintage further reinforces Terrazas de los Andes' commitment to revealing the extraordinary potential of Mendoza's mountain terroirs through site-specific, high-altitude winemaking.

Extremo Malbec 2022 is now available online and at retailers in select markets, for an SRP of $200 USD.

TASTING NOTES

Brooding dark opaque blue-tinged ruby color. Effusive cassis fruit on the nose. This is underlaid with forest floor, pencil lead, and herbes de provence. On the palate the blackcurrants are in a velvety tannic structure that puckers the mouth with a grippy film. The aftertaste is long and harmonious, echoing herbal notes for over a minute.

Keep for around ten years for optimal enjoyment. However, can be appreciated now, best with lamb or fatty beef cuts (e..g .rib-eye).
