Mijenta is an artisanal, small batch tequila from the highlands of Jalisco. Inspired by a shared cultural heritage, Mijenta offers a unique and super-premium spirit that is carefully crafted with a commitment to environmental sustainability and support for the local community. Mijenta’s products are handmade, numbered, and embrace traditional methods, crafting excellence through a bespoke distillation process.
In honor of the holiday, co-founder and award-winning mixologist, Juan Coronado, developed the below cocktail called Frida’s Flowers. This floral cocktail is perfect for transitioning from summer into fall; its refreshing citrus flavors juxtaposed with a richer, creamy cacao creme texture creates the perfect drink to celebrate the end of summer.
Frida’s Flowers
Ingredients:
2 parts Mijenta Blanco Tequila
.75 part strawberry or hibiscus syrup
1 part fresh lime juice
.25 part creme de cacao
Method:
Shake all ingredients vigorously with plenty of ice, strain into a coupe or martini glass. Garnish with edible flowers.
Equiano
In addition, the world’s first African and Caribbean rum company, Equiano Rum, also has a Labor Day cocktail to share. Using their brand new expression, Equiano Light -- a refreshingly unique blend of molasses rum from the Caribbean fused with fresh sugar cane juice rum from Africa -- co-founder and World Rum Ambassador Ian Burrell created the Clarified Milk Punch for this year’s Labor Day celebrations, perfect for groups. Recipe below.
Clarified Milk Punch
Ingredients:
1 of Sour (4oz Lemon Juice)
2 of Sweet (2oz Sugar syrup)
3 of Strong (8oz Equiano Rum )
4 of Weak (1 pint whole Milk)
5 of spice to make it nice (vanilla pod, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, hot Black Tea)
Method:
Add all ingredients into a jug, pouring the milk last and stir until the milk curdles. Refrigerate overnight. Use a cheesecloth, filter or muslin cloth to filter the curdled punch. Bottle the clarified liquid, to be used on a later date. Serve with ice, a sprinkle of nutmeg and a slice of lemon.
