FROM THE WIRES...
Sonoma, CA, September 18, 2025 – Anaba Wines, the picturesque estate located at the gateway of the famed Carneros/Sonoma Valley region of the Sonoma, known for its gracious family-style hospitality, is thrilled to announce the launch of its inaugural vintage of La Colline, Proprietary Red, Sonoma County, 2022 (SRP $84). This release marks a significant milestone, representing the culmination of a decade-long vision to create a wine that embodies Anaba's founding principles.
La Colline is a testament to proprietor John Sweazey’s passion and a defining chapter in Anaba’s history. Winemaker Katy Wilson dedicated over a decade to thoughtfully sourcing the ideal hilltop vineyards in Sonoma to bring John’s vision to life, ensuring exceptional quality and a genuine connection to the land.
"After years of working with incredible vineyards for our Rhône program, perfecting techniques and countless experiments with whole cluster fermentation and different coopers, we've honed the winemaking style, as well as the three perfect hilltop vineyards. We're so excited to bring this fruit together to create this ageable GSM. It's a wine inspired by the wines John enjoyed so many years ago," reflects winemaker Katy Wilson.
The blend features 50% Syrah from the organically farmed Pigasus Vineyard, located at 850 feet elevation atop Sonoma Mountain. The Grenache (25%) is sourced from Flora Marie Vineyard, a hillside vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The final 25% of the blend, Mourvèdre, comes from the Shore Vineyard in the Moon Mountain District, known for its dense volcanic rock, contributing depth and complexity to the wine.
La Colline represents Anaba's founding vision, inspired by John Sweazey's experiences in the Rhône Valley wine regions in the 1970s, where he was moved by the generational traditions of family-owned wineries. A pivotal moment occurred at M. Chapoutier winery, where Max Chapoutier shared his family's 100-year history from atop his "Colline" (hill), overlooking the Rhône River. This expression of family legacy resonated deeply with John, sparking a desire to create something similar in California. This inspiring encounter, blending family heritage, breathtaking landscape, and extraordinary hospitality, became the blueprint for Anaba's ethos, celebrating both the land and the personal connections formed around a glass of wine.
Fast forward from that formative experience, Anaba Wines was born in 2006. It is only natural that its finest Rhône-style blend is named La Colline, a direct homage to that inspiring visit and the hill that sparked a dream. La Colline is a living narrative of Anaba’s origins, a direct link to the very inspiration that drove its founder to create this winery. La Colline is available exclusively to Anaba Wines’ club members this fall.
About Anaba Wines:
Located at the gateway of the famed Carneros region in the Sonoma Valley, Anaba Wines is an example of the region's unique terroir and the power of nature. The winery’s name, "Anaba," is derived from the anabatic winds that grace Sonoma's Carneros and Petaluma Gap regions, drawing a parallel to the mistral winds of the Rhône Valley. Founded in 2006 by proprietor John Sweazey, Anaba is inspired by the generational traditions of winemaking and a deep appreciation for the land that John discovered during his French wine region travels.
In 2009 Anaba became the first winery in Northern California to install a wind turbine. Complemented by solar panel installations, the winery operates on 100% renewable electricity. Guests can experience the unique anabatic winds while enjoying a delicious glass of wine and house made pizza and other bites from Anaba's stunning terrace or in the inviting Vintner’s House that overlooks its estate vineyards. Guests can also combine wine tasting with a game of pickleball or bocceball; Anaba Wines welcomes all wine enthusiasts, including families with children as well as dogs.
