WINE REVIEW: William Chris Vineyards 2018 Mourvèdre La Pradera Vineyards, Texas High Plains ($38)

by Andrew Chalk

Mourvèdre (also known as Monastrel) is one of the best-performing wines in Texas and William Chris Vineyards is one of its best exponents. Their web site showcases their emphasis on the grape, with no fewer than four expressions listed. This wine has soft tannins and is ready to drink now. Ideally, with barbecued brisket or other red meat.

Bill Blackmon and Chris Brundrett sourced the fruit for this wine from La Pradera Vineyards near Brownfield. It is a well-known and widely used provider of high quality fruit to several winemakers.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Translucent garnet;

Nose: Effusive with bouquet of tomato leaf, forest floor and bacon. Aroma of raspberry with ripe confiture-like character;

Palate: Soft and mature fruit. Earthy, forest floor flavors erupt in the mouth. Warm long finish;
