WINE REVIEW: Trapiche 2019 ‘Gran Medalla’, Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina ($33)

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Opaque and inky blueberry and ruby.


Nose: Blueberries, lavender, white pepper, herbaceousness of scallions and basil;


Palate: Assertive tannic grip. Vibrant acid. Blueberry and black cherry flavors on the tongue that evaporate throughout the mouth. Rosemary herbal notes.


PRODUCER

Trapiche is one of the oldest and best-known wineries in Argentina. Gran Medalla was created to honor the company’s 125th anniversary. Trapiche sources it from the best vineyards in the Uco Valley, in Mendoza. Malbec is the winery’s signature grape.


Wine aged in new French oak for 18 months.
