WINE REVIEW: PlumpJack 2019 Syrah, NapaValley, CA ($74)

Winemaker Aaron Miller worked magic on this example of New World syrah. It is young, but in a highly accessible style, right now. I would keep some for 5-8 years and try again. In its present condition it makes a stellar companion to lamb.


TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Opaque ruby.


Nose: Blackberry fruit and oak. Perfume, nettles, cinnamon five spice;


Palate: Grippy tannins dominate the mouthfeel. High alcohol (>15%) shows in the back palate. Pacy acid level keeps the flavors alive. Herbal undertones power a long finish.
