WINE REVIEW: Metz Road 2019 Pinot Noir Estate Grown ‘Riverview Vineyard’, Monterey, CA ($36)

by Andrew Chalk

The Scheid Family produces Metz Road wines with a philosophy of small lots from single vineyards. Plantings consist of six clones of pinot noir (115, 667, 777, Pommard, 828 and 943). The winery reports “Embracing innovation, winemaker Casey Di Cesare and his team have a small press and refrigerated shipping container in the middle of the vineyard to initiate a true Riverview Vineyard indigenous yeast fermentation. These unique winemaking conditions combined with Scheid Family Wines’ certified sustainable farming practices guarantee that each vintage is a distinct expression of a special place and time.”
