WINE REVIEW: Dow’s 2016 Late Bottled Vintage Porto, Portugal ($26)

FROM THE WIRES...

This holiday, don’t forget to take a moment out of the hustle and bustle to enjoy a quiet moment to yourself. Take it easy and cozy up by the fire with the classics—a good book and a glass of Dow’s 2016 Late Bottled Vintage Port (SRP $26). Dow’s Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is carefully selected to reflect the unique characteristics of each vintage, and it is only bottled in the best years, making it a thoughtfully crafted wine worthy of savoring the season.

The 2016 LBV shares the same provenance with Dow’s legendary Vintage Ports, the iconic Douro properties of Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira. Recognized around the globe as an industry standard of excellence, Dow's LBV is a highly awarded leader in the Port market and a treasured favorite of wine enthusiasts around the world.

The harvest for Dow’s 2016 LBV was marked by an unusually warm winter and cool spring—both exceptionally wet—followed by one of the hottest summers on record. A few days of rain in mid-September were followed by days of sun toward the end of the vintage, when the grapes were picked in optimal conditions, resulting in a full-bodied, rich, and ideally balanced wine. This Port exudes complexity on the nose with deep, brooding black fruit aromas and floral essences of violets and rockrose followed by a hint of mint and pine needles. A robust and substantial palate of ripe berry fruit and brambles is brought to life by peppery tannins providing structure and a sense of freshness, all wrapped in a bow of Dow’s hallmark dry finish.
