WINE REVIEW: Chalk Hill 2019 Estate Bottled Sauvignon Blanc, Chalk Hill AVA, Sonoma Co., CA ($33)

by Andrew Chalk

A premium sauvignon blanc from a winery with an established track record with the grape. The winery says

“The Chalk Hill Estate Sauvignon Blanc is grown on a beautiful hillside overlooking the estate gardens. The vineyards benefit from a unique volcanic soil of chalky white ash where white varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc thrive. A small percentage of Sauvignon Gris adds layers of flavor and interest to the blend. Distinctive aromatics of the grapes are preserved by minimizing exposure to air and fermenting with carefully selected cultured yeast in a combination of stainless steel and French oak. Aging on the lees with regular stirring brings all the elements together. The freshness and texture of this wine makes it a natural pairing for Chef Alec’s Citrus and Chèvre Salad.”
