Santa Barbara Co., CA ($22)

by Andrew Chalk

Cambria Estate Winery is a family-owned winery run by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke’s daughters Katie and Julia. They exploit the calcareous soils and fog-swept hills to produce bright, rich, opulent, but still taut, chardonnay.

Appearance: Deep gold;

Nose: Tropical fruit led by mango and pineapple. Peaches. Yellow apples;

Palate: Weighty mouthfeel. Confirmation of the fruit, peach particularly prominent. Phenolic backbone adds an additional facet. Medium acid keeps the wine lively. Big fruity finish;

Good value.
