WINE REVIEW: 2017 Quinto da Fonte Souto Branco, Portalegre, Alentejo DOC, Portugal ($16)

by Andrew Chalk

Appearance: Pale gold. Clear;

Nose: Pineapple, yellow apples, blood oranges;

Palate: Good phenolic grip. Grippy texture. Long fruit-led finish;

This wine is from the Symington family which is synonymous with Port. However, this label comes from their vineyard in the Alentejo region inland from Lisbon and abutting the Spanish border. Keep an eye on wines from the Alentejo, or Tejo D.O. (AOP). They are compelling wines that are only now starting to appear in reasonable numbers in the U.S. market.
