FROM THE WIRES...
An Exceptional Territory and an International Vision
Perched on the hills between Greve in Chianti and Panzano, Vecchie Terre di Montefili is one of the most intriguing wineries in the Tuscan wine landscape.
Founded in 1975 and acquired in 2015 by Nicola Marzovilla, Frank Bynum, and Tom Peck Jr., three American entrepreneurs united by a deep passion for the Italian territory, the winery stands out for its innovative and sustainable approach to wine production.
Under the technical direction of oenologist and agronomist Serena Gusmeri, Montefili has embraced a distinctive philosophy, enhancing Sangiovese and other varietals with meticulous attention to biodiversity and sustainability
A Unique Terroir for Prestigious Wines
The estate spans 12.5 hectares in Greve in Chianti, positioned between the Additional Geographical Units (UGA) of Panzano and Montefioralle.
The soils are distinguished by three different geological matrices – Galestro, Alberese marl, and feldspathic quartz – that impart extraordinary mineral complexity to the wines.
At 540 meters above sea level, the ventilated microclimate and significant temperature variations favour optimal grape ripening, ensuring freshness and longevity in the wines.
Production Approach: Innovation and Environmental Respect

Vecchie Terre di Montefili adopts a production model focused on enhancing individual parcels, vinifying each vineyard separately to highlight its unique characteristics.
Since 1995, the winery has been part of the Panzano Bio-District, the first of its kind in Italy,
reaffirming its commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.
In 2018, a scientific project was initiated in collaboration with Vitenova to monitor soil biodiversity and assess the impact of agricultural activities on the ecosystem. This research, based on microfauna sampling and soil analysis, enables precise agronomic management and a reduction in human intervention in the vineyard.
Diversity Ark Certification: A Model of Sustainability
In 2023, Vecchie Terre di Montefili obtained the Diversity Ark certification, a European recognition that certifies biodiversity within the estate through rigorous environmental controls.
The estate's vineyards, primarily planted with Sangiovese along with 1.4 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, are cultivated using entirely sustainable methods.
In addition to ensuring soil and crop health, the certification prohibits the use of herbicides and harmful pesticides and monitors the presence of microplastics in the soil—an increasingly relevant issue in agriculture.
Wines of Character and Identity

Vecchie Terre di Montefili's production includes wines that have gained international recognition for their elegance and depth.

distinguished by aromas of ripe red cherries, cranberries, and apricots, enriched with hints of nutmeg, ginger, and plum. On the palate, it is accessible and fragrant, with delicate tannins and a lively, prolonged finish.
• Anfiteatro IGT Toscana: A Sangiovese of great structure and complexity, cultivated in the
estate’s historic vineyard. Notes of ripe red fruit, pepper, and elegant tannins make this a
unique expression of the terroir.

Sauvignon and Sangiovese. It features notes of black fruits, sweet spices, and tobacco that
harmoniously integrate into a rich and enveloping sensory profile.
Hospitality and Wine Experience
Beyond wine production, Vecchie Terre di Montefili offers an immersive hospitality experience designed to highlight the connection between wine, land, and Tuscan culture.
The estate features a panoramic terrace, a tasting room, and a historic cellar housing its most prestigious vintages. Guided tours, available year-round, allow guests to explore the heart of Chianti Classico and taste the wines in the unique setting where they are born
With an approach that combines tradition, research, and sustainability, Vecchie Terre di Montefili stands out as one of the most dynamic and interesting wineries in the Tuscan wine scene. It successfully blends historical roots with an international vision.
