EMPRESS 1908 GIN. A GIN FOR ALL SEASONS (ESPECIALLY THIS ONE)

by Andrew Chalk

Gin is hot, or cold, depending how you like it. In this case Empress 1908 sent us some recipes to make cocktails with their handcrafted spirit. It comes from British Columbia, where it is distilled in small copper pot stills using eight botanicals: juniper, rose, coriander seed, grapefruit peel, ginger root, cinnamon bark, butterfly pea blossom, and Fairmont Hotels Empress Blend Tea.

Here’s a hot recipe..

Hot Gin Toddy

Ingredients

1½ oz Empress 1908 Gin

3/4 oz fresh lemon juice

2 oz hot water

1 tsp sugar

Cinnamon stick

Method

Heat water. Build the ingredients in a wine goblet, brandy snifter, or glass mug. Stir well. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Empress 1908 Gin is $40 a bottle.
