Sicily has emerged as a premiere wine producing region within Italy over the last decade but the French Rhône Syrah has generally not been thought of as part of the picture. That may change with Cambria's serious attempt in this wine.

TASTING NOTES

The winemaker clearly wanted a wine that would age and that means this 2015 comes across as young at the present time. The nose is very closed in, but may open up with time. It is complex to the extent that it yields anything. The appearance is an opaque ruby red devoid of age-induced hue change. In the mouth dark fruit, herbs, forest floor predominate on a backbone of firm tannnins.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES

100% Syrah from the Furnari, Cinque Fontane estate. Aged in wood (no details).

Alcohol: 14%

Recommended with: game, roasts, and very mature cheese;

Sample.
