WINE REVIEW: Cleto Chiarli, Brut de Noir, Rosé, Italy, CA ($16)

Lambrusco has virtually disappeared from the US market. Cleto Chiarli is aiming to change that. I was pleasantly surprised by how well made and stylish this example is. Best of all, the price is often lower at the store than the above SRP. An alternative to prosecco at a prosecco price.

Appearance: Light salmon hues;

Nose: Red apples, peach pits;

Palate: Firm phenolic backbone overlays soft red fruit. Medium acid will make this wine popular with wine lovers who find Champagne too acidic but don’t want a sweet wine.
