Hooray. This year’s release of Domaine de Cala came in and tasting it reminded me of how consistent and enjoyable this Provence rosé is. Like most provencal rosés it is heavy in cinsault (60%) and grenache (30%) with trace amounts of syrah (8%), and rolle (2%). At 12.5% ABV it is light enough to be quaffed by the pool on hot Dallas days without lapsing into feats like ‘walking on water’.
Look for an appearance of the colors of the setting sun and ripe peach skin. A fruity nose of strawberries and raspberries with notes of citrus (lemon) and subtle hints of pepper and herbs.
